Components to be welded are placed together between a welding horn and several holding sections conforming to the component profile. Each component holding section is supported by a holder having independent adjustment of the clamping force. Clamping force in each area is varied such that the welding pressure exerted is equal to a predetermined value which compensates for thickness variation across the component. Pref. two halves of a magnetic disc are placed on four holding tables. A welding horn above the component can move up and down to perform the welding operation. Four individual horns project from the underside of the welding horn. Components pass between the underside of the welding horns and the component holding tables on a stepwise-moving belt. The component holding table is supported on an angled bracket which moves up and down on a slide arrangement. The bracket is connected via a coupling to an air cylinder attached to a reducing valve. A similar arrangement is provided for each separate holding table. USE/ADVANTAGE - For mfg. magnetic discs comprising upper and lower halves and eliminates the effects of component thickness variation on the weld quality
