An electric motor (4) drives the shaving head. A current assessment device (3) assesses the motor load current. A processor (7) has a scanning unit which, at predetermined intervals, scans the current values assessed by the current assessment device. A first judgement unit decides whether the value scanned by the scanning unit at a given time is greater than a predetermined value or not. A second judgement unit provides a positive or negative assessment w.r.t. the formation of the difference between the scanned value at a given time and that scanned at the previous time. An output signal processor emits a predetermined signal formulated dependent upon the data judged by the judgement unit.
