Apparatus for lifting a disabled person consists of a lower U shaped frame (4) which is mounted on wheels (2). The lower frame (4) is connected by uprights (6) (7) to an upper U shaped frame (8). The upright (6), at the closed end of the U frames is extended upwards and has pulleys attached to its upper end. These pulleys (19) guide a cable (21) which passes around a pulley block (20) which is fitted with a hook. A hinged seat (15) of adjustable height is attached to the lower part of the upright (6). The disabled person sits on the seat and attaches the hook to the belt worn around the chest. The disabled person is then raised to a standing position by pulling on the free end (18) of the cable (21). USE/ADVANTAGE - Lifting a disabled person by an apparatus which is self-operated.
