Process for comminuting thermoplastics fibre and prods. of these such as ropes, tapes, fabrics and fibre composites, to raise the apparent density and as preliminary step in their by recycling by melting down is claimed. The process is carried out making use of the thermoplastic nature of the fibres. Pref. the fibre raw material are heated by convection, conduction, infra red radiation or inductive heating until the individual fibres fuse together so that the prod. can be comminuted in conventional cutting mills and waste prod. cutters, or the fibre material may be comminuted by cutting using cutters with heated blades. USE/ADVANTAGE - The pre-processed fibre material is more compact, easier to handle, cheaper to transport and more convenient to use for recycling by melting.
