Appts. with hermetically sealed chamber maintained under vacuum or inert gas atmos. contains a carrier plate within the chamber, which is connected to a single actuating unit outwith the chamber by at least three crank lever mechanisms, each consisting of a rotatable and axially movable bar passing through a seal in the chamber wall and with cranks and crank pins at each end. A radiant heating source is used for soldering or welding workpieces mounted on the carrier plate. A locking brake serves to prevent unwanted bar movements. One of the crank pins engages a slot in the carrier plate, the other a slot in the actuating unit. The crank pins are slidable along the slots and tiltable relative to the slots. The slots in carrier plate and actuating unit run in the same direction. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides appts. for soldering or welding small parts of complex shape under vacuum or inert atmosphere, which is compact and easily operated and allows the position and orientation of the work carrying plate to be accurately controlled by a single actuator on the outside of the chamber.
