A parallel processing computer has multiple clusters (100) that are interconnected via a network. Each cluster has a CPU (1) that can be microprocessor based, a memory (2) that serves as the main store for the cluster and is accessed by the CPU. A transmission data read circuit (110) is used to obtain data from the memory to allow transmission in packet form over the network (4). A receive circuit (42) handles incoming data. The main memory has a real region (13), together with a virtual memory region within the CPU. Transmissions occur between real memory regions in cluster systems. ADVANTAGE - Reduced operational overhead to allow improved cluster communication.
