Rigid porous materials, except building materials such as mortar, cement, stone, brick or tile or marble, are impregnated by allowing already formed copolymer (I) to penetrate into material under pressure or vacuum. Pref. aq. disersions (II) of (meth)acrylic copolymers contg. foam inhibitor (III) for use in above process. USE/ADVANTAGE - Aq. (meth)acrylic resin dispersions in impregnation of porous metal or plastics materials. Partic. impregnating metal castings to fill small cracks, microcavities, etc. for use in e.g. petrochemical, atomic, foodstuff, machine, electrical, heating, marine, aircraft and partic. motor vehicle, industries esp. cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, gears, water or oil pumps, carburettors, tyre rims etc. Method is simple, non-polluting and energy-saving through not requiring heat.
