The subject of the invention is a device for manipulating, for stocking and for introducing a dummy bar for starting casting into a continuous metal-casting installation. The device according to the invention comprises an endless chain stretched between two return wheels (21) (21') mounted, respectively, below each end of the stocking track (16) and comprising an upper belt (17a) passing along the stocking track (16) and a lower return belt (17b) and a flexible link (15) for raising the manipulating hook (30) with the dummy bar (12), connected via its end opposite the hook (30) to a hooking point (18) on the endless chain (17), the latter being associated with a drive motor for raising and installing the dummy bar (12) on the stocking track (16) by winding up the flexible link along the upper belt (17a) then winding up the lower belt (17b) of the chain in step with the raising of the dummy bar (12) and its advance over the stocking track (16).
