Process for protecting the privileges of use of one or more pieces of software on a computer workstation (1, 10), these privileges being contained in a key work module (C1, C3) intended to cooperate with the workstation (1, 10) so as to permit continuity of utilization of the said pieces of software. The process comprises, in the event that the key work module (C1) is faulty, a phase of checking the actual right to the privileges (A0, B0) whose restoral is requested, the said key work module (C1) and each of the said privileges (A0, B0) of use being initially associated respectively with a key identifier and with privilege-of-use identifiers and furthermore comprises, during any run of at least one of the said pieces of software or a transaction pertaining to the said privileges of use, an operation for recording the key identifier and the privilege-of-use identifiers in at least one predetermined file (CLE, FUS) accessible at the workstation (1, 10) and forwarded with the defective key work module.
