The field of the invention is that of binary coding. The invention relates in particular, but not exclusively, to the encoding of data intended to be represented sequentially, according to a predetermined order, for example in counters. It is an object of the invention to provide a method of bit coding digital data that induces a uniform, or substantially uniform, tilt rate for each of the bits. BR/ This objective is achieved by means of a binary coding method of digital data, wherein said data is encoded on two separate fields (11, 12) of bits, a reference field (11) and a permutation field (12), the bit sequence assigned to said permutation field (12) undergoing a permutation (13) depending on the value contained in said reference field (11). / P
