Communication between controller and appliance in domestic automation - has collision-sensing carrier-detection network for communication, single key and ICON based user interface

The communication system automatically assigns addresses to appliances, using negotiation between microcontrollers at each appliance. A bidirectional communciation network links the microcontrollers. After the user presses a button on the controller a sequence of commands is displayed till the user presses the button again, selecting the command displayed. A sequence of icons representing each appliance is then displayed and an appliance similarly selected. Addresses of each are then automatically located and messages sent to all appliances. ADVANTAGE - Very simple user interface for selection of units in domestic automation installation.
