The invention relates to the dropping of heavy loads, such as the skiff of a tuna boat, in a safe, easy manner which limits damage due to the impacts caused by such dropping. The device according to the invention is of the type comprising a hook (11) which is movable between at least two positions - a cocked position and a relaxed position - the holding and the release of said hook being controlled by a rocker catch (14) which interacts with release means (19, 20). According to the invention, said rocker catch (14) interacts with means of immobilisation (23) at the end of travel of said rocker catch (14), at the time of release of said hook (11), such as a non-return ratchet (23) interacting with a stop notch (26) made in said rocker catch (14). In this manner, the rocker does not rebound at the end of travel in an uncontrolled manner. There are not several impacts, nor a risk of undesirable recocking. This makes it possible for the hook to turn freely on itself, thus dissipating the kinetic energy accumulated at the time of the release without causing either damage to the equipment or risk to the users.
