P The invention relates to a process for producing a ceramic fiber / ceramic matrix composite having a pre-cracked coating of fibers, which consists in depositing a coating of oxidizable precursor on each ceramic fiber (1O), to impregnate the fibers of a ceramic matrix (30) to form said composite, and after the formation of the latter, to oxidize the coating so as to make it pass into the oxide state. Microscopic cracks form in the oxidized coating due to the disparity of characteristics between the precursor layer and the final oxidized layer.
