For the application of a method which allows the determination of the opening position of an electric water valve, the control unit of which, coupled to a potentiometer, can be mounted on the valve shaft and fixed to the valve box and in which it is simple to provide the valves with the control unit, the recommended solution consists in that the control unit is coupled to the valve shaft and connected to the voltage source, that then the valve is brought to the closed position, that, for the determination of the closed position, the increase in current is measured and compared with a threshold value, that, when the current exceeds the threshold value, the voltage at the potentiometer is determined, read in a counter and sent as definition of zero in a memory and then the control device is switched off.
