A protective coating for metal components formed of nickel or cobalt- based superalloys essentially consists of the following constituents (in percentages by weight):PP1 to 20% rhenium,P P22 to 50% chromium,PP0 to 15% aluminum, the share of chromium and aluminum taken together being at least 25% and at most 53%, PP0.3 to 2% in total of at least one reactive element from the group consisting of the rare earths, andPP0 to 3% silicon,PPimpurities, as well as the following elective components:PP0 to 5% hafnium,PP0 to 12% tungsten,PP0 to 10% manganese,PP0 to 15% tantalum,PP0 to 5% titanium,PP0 to 4% niobium, andPP0 to 2% zirconium,PPthe total share of the elective components being from 0 to a maximum of 15%, and a remainder primarily being at least one of the elements iron, nickel, and cobalt.
