PURPOSE: To obtain a miscible blend having a single Tg and being useful for protective coatings, membranes and films by including a poly(alkylene oxide) vinyl carboxylic ester polymer and an acid functional polymer. ;CONSTITUTION: This blend comprises (A) 1-99 pts.wt. poly(alkylene oxide) vinylcarboxylic ester comprising recurring units of formula I (n is 1-50; m is an integer of 0-50; X is S, O or N; z is 0 or 1; R and R³ are each H, a 1-18C alkyl or the like; R¹ is a divalent methylene, H, methyl or the like; and R² is a 2-4C alkylene or the like), desirably poly[bis(methoxyethoxyethoxy) itaconate], (B) 99-1 pts.wt. polymer [e.g. poly(4-vinylphenol)] containing at least 5 wt.%, desirably at least 10 wt.% acid functional groups of formula II (R⁴ to R⁷ are each H, methyl, halo or the like) and optionally a low lattice energy salt (e.g. LiBF₄) and a plasticizer (e.g. dioctyl phthalate).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
