PURPOSE: To minimize deterioration of transmitter filling time by providing a transmission means with a plurality of transducers operating at different frequencies to split a receiving region into a plurality of receiving strips thereby avoiding superposition of a receiving lattice side lobe and a transmission beam. ;CONSTITUTION: A transmission means 58 having a plurality of transmission transducers 59-61 of different frequency is employed to project a sound wave in desired pattern for receiving strips 62-64. A single hydrophone array is employed in order to form a total beam even if the frequency of the transducers 59-61 is different and the length thereof is limited in order to prevent excess deterioration of the filling time. In this regard, the length L of a transmitter to be equal to the width of strips 62-64 receiving a sound wave is set equal to or shorter than (2×R×FT)1/2. (R is shortest distance, FT is maximum allowable deterioration of filling time).
