PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of hindrance in a solidified shell by determining the specific temperatures of respective narrow-face and broad-face plate materials from the temperatures in the coolant outlets of the respective plate materials, comparing these temperatures and regulating the degrees of the tapers of narrow-face plate materials when there is a difference. CONSTITUTION: The temperatures of the coolant in the coolant outlet of the liquid-cooled narrow-face and broad-face plate materials 1 to 4 are measured. The specific temperatures of the respective plate materials 1 to 4 are then determined from the measured temperatures and the specific temperatures of the opposing plate materials 1 to 4 are compared.
