PURPOSE: To provide a device and a method of effectively removing residual quantum magnetic flux in a high temperature superconductor without using an expensive device such as a laser device or the like. ;CONSTITUTION: A magnetic shield case 1 is a cylinder provided with a base and composed of an outer high temperature superconductor 2 and an inner insulator 3 formed of plastic lower than the superconductor 2 in thermal conductivity in contact the outer periphery of the superconductor 2. The nozzle of a residual quantum magnetic flux removing device 5 is made to move to a spot of the high temperature superconductor 2 where residual quantum magnetic flux is trapped, a gap between the nozzle concerned and the high temperature superconductor 2 to 5 to 10μm, and heating gas is made to blow against the surface of the high temperature superconductor 2 to turn the spot into a normal conductor. A nozzle is made to move toward the end of the high temperature superconductor 2 and to scan, blowing off heating gas, to remove residual quantum magnetic flux.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
