PURPOSE:To easily produce the product having high quality and ultra high purity by hydrolyzing zirconium alkoxide with the water of crystallization of a metal salt contg. the water of crystallization at the time of producing (partially) stabilized tetragonal zirconium by a sol-gel method. CONSTITUTION:The sol formed by adding the metal salt contg. the water of crystallization to the soln. of the zirconium alkoxide and hydrolyzing the soln. is aged to obtain a gelatinous molding. The metal salt contg. the water of crystallization is selected from =1 kinds of the chloride, nitrate, sulfate, carbonate, oxalate, and acetate of Y, Ca, Ng, and Ce. The amt. of the metal salt to be added is preferably specified to 0.01 to 1mol H2O of the water of crystallization per 1mol zirconium alkoxide. The aging is 1 to 180 days at 20 to 80 deg.C sol temp. This gelatinous molding is calcined at 400 to 1800 deg.C, by which the stabilized (tetragonal) or partially stabilized (tetragonal ZrO2 is dispersed in cubic ZrO2) zirconia molding is obtd.
