PURPOSE: To provide a method especially suitable for solving a big matrix question with a parallel processing computer. ;CONSTITUTION: Nodes 110 and 150 shown in a computer 100 are connected to channels 130, 140 and 160 in the computer 100. Either an input/output node 150 or a calculation node 110 are available as well. The node is connected through a signal line 170 and the node 150 is coupled to disk drives 181 and 182 or the like. This method is provided for solving a linear equation, for which the right side of the linear equation exists on a 1st vector while making a coefficient existent in the 1st matrix, with the parallel processing computer. It is divided into plural row disk sections ND by ND, plural column disk sections ND by ND and ND pieces of diagonal disk sections. Plural rows (j) by (j) and plural columns (j) by (j) are respectively solved into factors. Next, (j) pieces of diagonals are solved into factors and inverted. This step is repeated for all the values of (j) from '1' to the ND. While using the 1st matrix, forward erasure and backward substitution are executed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
