PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing hypohalous acid, its alkali metal or an alkali earth metal salt aqueous solution, for example, a sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution, without substantially containing especially the halide ion, for example, a chloride ion, concerning a method for separating a hypohalous acid, for example, a hypochlorite, from a hypohalous acid solution containing halide ions for example, from the hypochlorite solution containing chloride ions. ;CONSTITUTION: The hypohalous acid solution containing halide ions is brought into contact with the first surface of a porous membrane of a hydrophobic material and also with the second surface of it so that hypohalous acid is separated from the hypohalous acid solution containing the halide ions in the method.
