PURPOSE: To impart excellent hydrophilicity to the surface of an acrylic resin without deteriorating the original characteristics of the acrylic resin by irradiating the surface of the acrylic resin with UV laser light in the atmosphere of a nitrogen compound. ;CONSTITUTION: The surface of an acrylic resin (preferably the homopolymer or copolymer of methyl methacrylate) having a number-average mol.wt. of 103-107, preferably 104-106, is irradiated with UV laser light (the energy density of 15-25mJ/cm2: especially preferably eximer laser of 18-22mJ/cm2) of 180-360nm, preferably 190-250nm, in an atmosphere of a gaseous or liquid nitrogen compound, preferably in the atmosphere of the gaseous nitrogen compound having a partial pressure of 0.5-100Torr, especially 20-100Torr, to perform a surface treatment for imparting excellent hydrophilicity to the surface of the acrylic resin without deteriorating the original oxygen permeability, optical characteristics, mechanical properties, etc., of the acrylic resin.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
