METHOD FOR PRESERVING FRESHNESS OF CUT FLOWER WITH SILICA GEL AND FRESHNESS PRESERVATIVE OF CUT FLOWER

PURPOSE: To keep concentration of a treating agent in water approximately constant and to maintain freshness of cut flowers in a good state for a long period of time without causing pollution by immersing granular silica gel in a solution containing a treating agent for retaining freshness of cut flowers and immersing cut flowers in the solution. ;CONSTITUTION: A given amount of a treating agent such as growth regulator of cut flowers, life prolonging agent for cut flowers, nutritive agent, fungicide, etc., is dissolved in water to give a solution, into which granular silica gel is added. The blend is preferably stirred well and made into a uniform state. Then the cuts of the cut flowers are immersed in the solution to maintain freshness. Or, the silica gel and the treating agent are thrown into water and the cuts of the flowers are immersed in the solution to keep the freshness of the flowers. Or, for example, the treating agent is dissolved or dispersed into water, the silica gel is immersed in solution or dispersion for a given time and taken out to give a freshness preservative of cut flowers supporting the treating agent on the granular silica gel. Since the treating agent becomes an equilibrium state at a relatively low concentration in the solution, the treating agent has no pollution even if abandoned directly and the silica gel itself is safe and harmless.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
