MEASURING METHOD FOR ALKANE HYDROCARBON AND THE LIKE IN METHANOL VEHICLE EXHAUST GAS

PURPOSE: To continuously determine quantity of alkane hydrocarbon and the like over a whole operation range by passing a methanol vehicle exhaust gas through a dilution device according to quantity of a methanol component therein, and then leading it to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. ;CONSTITUTION: An exhaust pipe is connected to a gas leading pipe 1 at an upstream part thereof, while a dilution device 2 and a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR) 3 via a selector valve 4 are connected thereto at a downstream part thereof. The gas leading pipe 1 is branched upstream of the dilution device 2 and connected to the selector valve 4 to make connection/disconnection free so as to select either direct communication to the FTIR 3 or passing through the dilution device 2. In the case where methanol concentration is rich at the time of starting and the like, measuring of alkane hydrocarbon and the like is difficult and, therefore, exhaust gas is passed through the dilution device 2 to be diluted until light absorbance becomes 1.0 or less to determine quantity of both components in the exhaust gas by means of the FTIR 3. When operation is stabilized and the methanol concentration becomes lean. the exhaust gas is directly passed to the FTIR 3 via the bypass to determine quantity of the net component.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
