PURPOSE: To hold at a target roll profile where the shape of a product plate is made optimum by providing a roll profile arithmetic controller, determining the optimum pressing position of a grinding wheel and changing a grinding position. ;CONSTITUTION: The roll profile arithmetic controller 29 is provided in a on-line roll grinder device. The roll profile to be ground, which is a difference between a roll profile actually measured with a detector 11 and the target roll profile which is arithmetically processed to become the optimum roll profile, is divided for each oscilater of the grinding wheel 10; an intersected point with a grinding profile is determined and a grinding section is decided. The mid point between the intersected point and the maximum wear point in an ungrinding section is made a position to start or finish the grinding; an optimum position to press the grinding wheel is determined for each oscilater; and also the grinding position is changed.
