PURPOSE: To produce a shape memory alloy having good tempering stability, hot-workability and free machinability. ;CONSTITUTION: This shape memory alloy consists essentially of nickel, titanium and copper in such a composition shown in the range decided by a quadrangle having a first apex of 42.5 at.% nickel, 50.0 at.% titanium and 7.5 at.% copper, a second apex of 36.0 at.% nickel, 50.0 at.% titanium and 14.0 at.% copper, a third apex of 41.5 at.% nickel 44.5 at.% titanium and 14.0 at.% copper and a fourth apex of 44.75 at.% nickel, 47.75 at.% titanium and 7.5 at.% copper, in the nickel, titanium and copper ternary composition diagram.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
