PURPOSE: To produce a structure, such as aircraft, in high efficiency by preparing a silicon nitride whisker reinforced aluminum composite material by a powder metallurgical method and subjecting the composite material to forging, rolling, and superplastic press forming at respectively specified temps. ;CONSTITUTION: The planar composite material having ≥0.1mm thickness is produced by subjecting a silicon nitride whisker or grain reinforced aluminum matrix composite material prepared by a powder metallurgical method to (1) a process where forging is performed at 300-550°C at 1.0-1.5 amount of strain to form the planar composite material and then rolling is done at 500-580°C at 1.0-5.0 amount of strain, (2) a process where forging is done at 300-550°C at 1.0-4.0 amount of strain, and (3) extrusion is performed at 500°C at 25-100 extruding ratio to form the planar composite material and further rolling is applied at 500-580°C at 1.0-5.0 amount of strain. When the composite material is subjected to tensile test at 500-550°C, the total elongation of 200-400% is produced at the strain rate of about 0.03 to 0.7(1/sec), and superplastic phenomenon is allowed to appear.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
