PURPOSE: To provide the process for production of the wire for CO2 shielded arc welding which generates spatters in an extremely smaller amt. and has excellent economy. ;CONSTITUTION: A molten steel contg. ≤0.12wt.% C, 0.01 to 1.80wt.% Si, 0.30 to 2.20wt.% Mn, ≤0.030wt.% P, and ≤0.030wt.% S and consisting of the balance iron and unavoidable impurities is continuously cast. The part near the crater end where the molten steel in the ingot completes solidification is subjected to forging to decrease the ratio C/C0 of the C content (C) in the axial central part to the C content (Co) of the molten steel in a ladle to 0.7 to 1.05. This ingot is subjected to hot rolling and cold drawing, by which the axial central part of the wire is made into negative segregation and the central segregation to accelerate the generation of the spatters is averted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
