PURPOSE:To recognize various electronic parts in a broad range accurately by storing the adequate lens magnification corresponding to the kind code of the parts beforehand, collating the magnification with kind recognizing data, and determining the adequate lens magnification of the electronic parts to be recognized. CONSTITUTION:A memory device 3 and a part-kind recognizing means 4 are contained in a control device 2 for controlling the entire parts recognizing apparatus. Electronic- parts kind codes and the corresponding adequate lens magnifications are stored in the memory device 3. The data are collated with the kind recognizing data of an electronic parts 1 which are recognized with a parts-kind recognizing means 4. The adequate lens magnification of the electronic parts 1 to be recognized is determined. A zoom driving means 5 is controlled, and a zoom-in lens 6 is set at the adequate lens magnification. A camera 8 photographs the image of the electronic part 1 through the zoom lens 6. The image is cast on an image sensing plane 9. A recognizing means 10 recognizes the parts based on the image of the electronic parts 1 and the kind recognizing data of the electronic parts 1 which is recognized with the recognizing means 4.
