PURPOSE: To improve the accelerating property in manual mode by providing an output characteristic control means for controlling the output regulating mechanism of an automatic transmission changeable to auto mode and manual mode to set a shift stage. ;CONSTITUTION: The automatic transmission A of an engine E is constituted in such a manner that a determined shift stage is set by controlling a hydraulic control unit C by an automatic transmission electronic control unit 16 or operating a manual valve by a shift device 17 operated by a shift lever. The automatic transmission electronic control unit 16 transmits a speed change command to the hydraulic control unit C, and when manual mode is judged, it outputs this signal to an engine electronic control unit 12. In this case, the engine is controlled by an actuator 11 in such a manner that the engine output characteristic to the operation amount of an accelerator 13 is larger than in the case of auto mode.
