PURPOSE:To attain smooth reply even in the case of talking call or facsimile call when the mode is set to the telephone/facsimile equipment standby mode. CONSTITUTION:The facsimile equipment is provided with a message memory 11 storing in advance a reply message to be sent to a caller side, a MODEM 12 detecting a calling signal representing a non-voice terminal equipment sent at least from the caller, and a signal processing section 10 starting the transmission of the above reply message to the caller immediately at the arrival of a call, starting the monitor of the presence of the calling signal by the MODEM and switching the facsimile reception or the talking in response to the presence of the detection of the calling signal.
