PURPOSE: To provide a method for efficiently recovering hydrogen chloride and a process for making the polymn. degree of siloxane regardless of the concn. of an acid. ;CONSTITUTION: A mixture comprising diorganodichlorosilane and a source of triorganosilyl groups is brought into contact with excessive water essentially saturated with hydrogen chloride. A product siloxane is isolated as well as saturated aq. hydrogen chloride and anhydrous hydrogen chloride. The amt. of triorganosilyl groups present in the mixture is adjusted in order to set the degree of polymn. of the product siloxane. The isolated saturated aq. hydrogen chloride is recirculated to the reaction system.
