PURPOSE: To obtain the STN type liquid crystal display element which is constituted to decrease the fluctuations in the spacing (gap) between substrate members and to obviate the generation of bubbles at the time of a low temp. and forms a bright image without having defects of the displayed image. ;CONSTITUTION: The spherical spacers 8 for the liquid crystal display element have the value of K defined by equation (I) within a 750 to 1500kgf/mm2 range at 20°C and the recovery rate after compression displacement is in a 30 to 80% range at 20°C. In the equation, F, S are respectively the load value (kgf) and compression displacement (mm) at 10% compression displacement of the spherical spacers and R is the radius (mm) of the spacers.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
