PRODUCTION OF HOUSING HAVING CAST-IN TYPE INSERT WITH LOST FOAM CASTING PROCESS AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PURPOSE: To obtain an economical and easy method for a lost foam casting process by casting a housing and insert assembly with the lost foam casting process. ;CONSTITUTION: After forming a pattern and insert assembly 10 by assembling the mold portion around a liner 38, this assembly 10 is used to the lost foam casting process and the evaporable foaming material 12 for casting part is replaced by molten metal. The molten metal is solidified to form an engine block inserting the liner 38 as cast-in. In order to replace the foaming material 12 by molten aluminum, molding sand is filled around the pattern and insert assembly 10. Further, spaces and hollow parts of the pattern and insert assembly 10 containing a gap 40, cylinder bore 34, water jacket hollow part 32, gas exhaust ports 36 and hollow liner 38, are filled with the molding sand before casting. After the pattern and insert assembly 10 is enclosed into the molding sand, the engine block is cast by supplying the molten metal for replacing the evaporable foaming material 12.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
