PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composite material increased in usage as a raw material for weight reduction, also effective for the energy saving in mobile machines by incorporating a thermoplastic resin with specific reinforcing glass fibers at a specified proportion. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, a dispersion is prepared by dispersing (A) 20-70wt.% of reinforcing glass fibers having 7-50mm mean fiber length (10-60wt. being in the form of glass fiber aggregates with unopened chopped strands as core, and also, 5-30wt.% and 40-90wt.% being distributed in the form of unopened chopped strand and monofilaments, respectively) and (B) 30-80wt.% of a granular thermoplastic resin in (C) a surfactant-contg. aqueous medium with fine air bubbles dispersed therein (pref. a 70-95wt.% portion of the component A is first dispersed to prepare a dispersion followed by addition of the rest of the component A in the form of unopened chopped strands). This dispersion is then put to papermaking process using a porous substrate into a sheet-like web, which is then subjected to both heating pressurization and solidified, thus obtaining the objective composite material.
