PRODUCTION OF POLYESTER WATER-ABSORBENT WOVEN OR KNIT FABRIC

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject woven or knit fabric having excellent durable water absorbency and having a variable touch by drawing undrawn polyester fibers each having a specific birefringence rate in a specific low drawing ratio, subjecting the produced semi-drawn fibers each having a specific structure to a rubbing treatment under a specified condition, weaving or knitting the drawn fibers into a woven or knit fabric and subsequently subjecting the fabric to a weight-reducing treatment using an alkali. ;CONSTITUTION: Polyester nonwoven fibers having a birefringence rate Δn of 0.019-0.04 are drawn in a low drawing ratio with a known draw-twister into semi-drawn fibers each having a structure in which thick parts having fiber evenness wavelengths of ≤30cm in a frequency of ≥45% remain. The semi-drawn fibers are subjected to a rubbing treatment at a temperature of ≤75°C under a tension satisfied with an inequality of I and with an equality II [wherein T₀= the tension (g/d) of the fiber on the inlet side of a rubbing member; T₁= the tension (g/d) of the fiber at the outlet side of the rubbing member, and subsequently subjected to a weight-reducing treatment using an alkali at a weight reduction rate of 10-40% to obtain a waterabsorbent polyester woven or knit fabric in which effective fine cracks have been produced and which have excellent durable water absorbency.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
