PURPOSE: To provide a sensor which shifts the front part of a secondary cooling boom provided with water spraying devices arranged in a bay mutually separating each of rolls to control the secondary cooling state in the continuous casting apparatus, a dummy bar provided with this sensor and the control method of the continuous casting apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The sensor is constituted with a small dimensional closed chamber 1 and one of walls 3 in the closed chamber 1 is made of a heat-insulating material, and in the wall 3, a heat-conductive pin 12 faced to the secondary cooling boom 21 at the shifting time of the sensor, is arranged and the remaining walls of the closed chamber 1 are made of the heat-insulating material, and in the closed chamber 1, electric resistance heaters 6, 7 for adjusting the temp. in the closed chamber 1 to a reference value and a temp. sensor 11 are disposed. In this way, the cooling effect with each water spray device in the secondary cooling system can quickly and accurately be measured.
