A fastening element for fastening an insulation layer 18 especially against a vertical underlying layer 11 comprises three main parts, that is a fastening part, which is intended to anchor the fastening element in or against the underlying layer 11, a shank 27, which extends through the insulation layer 18 and an expanded part, such as a collar 28, which directly or indirectly presses against the insulation layer 18. The collar 28 of the fastening element is moveable in relation to the shank 27, so that the plane of the collar can form an angle with the normal plane of the shank through the outer end of the shank. The mobility can be achieved by means of ties or a part, which is situated between the shank and the collar, and which has less flexural rigidity than the shank, or by means of a ball-and-socket joint 25, 26 with a concave part 25 and a convex part 26, in which the convex part is connected to the shank 27 and is designed to be capable of introduction into the concave part 25, from outside or inside, or from whichever side, before or after the fastening part has been anchored in the underlying layer 11.
