The invention relates to a preparation, suitable for producing a neutral metal oxide sol, and containing 35-75% by weight of one or more metal oxide sols or metal oxide hydrates and 15-45% by weight of one or more hydroxycarboxylic acids and/or hydroxycarboxylic acid derivatives as stabilisers.
