The widened protective deck is formed as a railing and is installed on a leisure craft, e.g. a sailing boat, where in a lowered position it acts as a widened access deck and in a raised position serves to prevent boat passengers falling into the water. It is of light construction and in the raised position comprises two metal profiles, one of which is attached to the boat hull by an articulated fastening arrangement.
