During or immediately after the dewatering phase, the actual wt. of the laundry is assessed and in a micro-processor or similar is compared with a stored laundry dry wt. so as to calculate the residual damp value. From the calculated residual damp a control dimension for the further regulation of the dewatering phase is deduced for achieving a specific residual damp end value. The residual damp end value of the laundry is determined according to the programme or can be selected by the user. From the residual damp end value an operating extent is deduced for control of the amt. of rinsing water coming in after the dewatering phase.
