Process for reducing the water-vapour permeability of paper or paper board, in which the paper is coated with an application medium which contains polyvinyl alcohol. Such a paper can be produced by a thermal post-treatment being carried out, after the coating, at temperatures between 120 and 170 degree C, preferably 140 and 160 degree C.
