A process for preparing a metallocene catalyst-alumoxane support for gas phase polymerization of olefins, comprising the steps of: (a) adding particulate silica gel not dehydrated to a stirred solution of a trialkylaluminum in an amount sufficient to provide a mole ratio of aluminum trialkyl to water of from 3: 1 to 1: 2 and allowing to react the mixture; (B) adding a metallocene to the reaction mixture; (C) removing the solvent; (D) drying the solids to a powder that ows freely with a metallocene alumoxane complex adsorbed on the particles.
