The subject of the present invention is a hybrid electrochemical nuclear reactor based on hybrid cold fusion (H,D) in a solid matrix. Charging the cathode with hydrogen is done by electrolysis of light water. The cathode has an internal cavity that is used for the injection of deuterium. The deuterium is injected into the electrode by pressurised deuterium gas from a container and also by the electrolysis of heavy water. The cathode can be made of: Ti, Th, V, Zr, Pd, Nb, Ta or alloys of any of these with each other or with other elements. For optimisation, both the solubility of the hydrogen in the cathode and the permeability of the cathode with respect to the hydrogen, the inner and outer surfaces of the cathode can optionally be covered with Pd. The reactor which is the subject of the present invention is potentially useful for producing power.
