A WATER-IMPERMEABLE SEALING MAT CONSISTING SUBSTANTIALLYOF A SUBSTRATE LAYER, AN INTERLAYER OF SWELLABLE CLAY,AND A COVER LAYERAbstract of the DisclosureA water impermeable sealing mat and a method for producingsame are provided. The sealing mat consists of a non-woventextile material as substrate layer, an intermediate layerof swellable clay, preferably sodium bentonite, and acover layer consisting preferably also of a non-woven textilematerial, all three layers having been needled togetherin the conventional manner in a needle loom, When moistened,the bentonite swells and forms the water-impermeable layer.The water-impermeable sealing mat is used especially inhydraulic engineering and in waste disposal engineering.
