ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA method is disclosed for determining a component of theresponse of a reservoir to tidal forces (such as theamplitude of variation or delay time) in a hydrocarbonsreservoir. That method comprises measuring a variableresponsive to tidal forces within the reservoir over ameasurement time period, determining a theoretical earth-tide for the reservoir over that measurement time period,and determining the component of the response to tidalforces by comparing the variable measurements and thetheoretical earth-tide determinations. Examples ofvariables that are responsive to the tidal forces are fluidlevel in a borehole, pressure, and borehole stress. Themeasurement time period should be sufficiently long so thatboth a maximum and minimum variable measurement is achievedduring that time period (e.g., fourteen or twenty-fourhours).
