Abstract of the DisclosureSystem for measuring the volumetric flow of blood in avessel of a patient comprising a transducer positionedin a vessel in a patient for supplying ultrasonicenergy. The transducer produces a substantiallyuniform beam which encompasses the vessel. Thetransducer receives ultrasonic energy back scatteredfrom the red blood cells. A first moment detector isprovided. A signal is supplied from the transducer tothe first moment detector. A calculated correctionalfactor is also provided to the output of the firstmoment detector to provide an electrical outputrepresenting volume flow.44220
