2130258 9317260 PCTABS00163 The invention generally relates to a new mechanism for varying the speed of rotation between two rotating shafts, one being motor, the other receiver. Such a mechanism is called upon to replace the gearbox, generally used on motor vehicles. The mechanism consists of two trunks of cones (3) and (5), the generators of which are concave, respectively fixed on a shaft (2) secured to the motor (1) and a shaft (6) secured to the movement transmission members , and between which a roller with an inverted double cone (4) whose generatrices are convex, mounted on an arm (10) by means of an axis (9), is interposed to ensure the connection in rotation between the cones ( 3) and (5). This is ensured by the adhesion caused on the one hand by the choice of materials used and, on the other hand, by the bearing force exerted by the roller (4) on the truncated cones (3) and ( 5) by any pressure mechanism (7). The roller (4) moves in translation on the generatrices of the truncated cones (3) and (5) by means of any variation system (8) which allows, depending on its position, to adapt the ratio of reduction in the various parameters influencing the smooth running of the whole. The mechanism according to the invention is particularly intended for motor vehicles.
