Proposed is a method of dissolving iron at an iron-dissolving station through which an electrolyte flows which is intended for the electroplating of coated or uncoated steel strip with iron or iron alloys. At this iron-dissolving station, electrolyte is allowed to flow through steel strip coiled up to form a coil with spaced windings or stacked to form spaced layers, the electrolyte passing longitudinally between the coil windings and thus dissolving the iron.
